The Elphinstone bantam boys have completed an undefeated regular season and are gearing up for the playoffs.
After a 4-0 start in December, the Cougars picked up right where they left off in January after their Christmas break, picking up four more wins to finish their regular season schedule at 8-0.
Elphi beat Handsworth 46-28 on the road Jan. 14, beat St. Thomas Aquinas (STA) 35-26 at home on Jan. 16, blasted Rockridge 70-38 at home on Jan. 21 and edged Sutherland 44-36 at home on Jan. 23.
Elphi will now take on the winner of Sutherland/Rockridge in the North Shore league semifinal on Wednesday, Feb. 6. Handsworth and STA meet in the other semifinal.
The Elphi junior boys are 1-7 in league play after a busy few weeks.
The Cougars lost 59-27 to Handsworth Jan. 10, lost to Windsor 53-35 on Jan. 15, beat Argyle 41-38 on Jan. 17, lost to Sutherland 48-29 on Jan. 23 and lost to Sentinel 63-27 on Jan. 24.
In Junior girls action, Chat is 2-7 in league play following a busy month of January.
The Eagles lost 51-13 to Handsworth Blue on Jan. 9, beat Rockridge 35-28 on Jan. 14, lost a close 29-27 game at home to Sentinel on Jan. 21 and lost 48-11 to Handsworth Gold on Jan. 23.
The senior boys are sitting at 2-3 and sixth place in the North Shore league after recent play.
The Cougars beat Bodwell 51-45 on Jan. 15 following their home tournament win the weekend prior, but dropped a 63-57 decision to Collingwood on Jan. 18. They then lost 59-45 to Windsor on Jan. 22.
The Chat senior boys are 0-5 in league play following a 100-58 loss to STA on Jan. 15 and a 91-48 loss to Collingwood on Jan. 17.
In senior girls, the Cougars are holding onto the eighth and final playoff position with a 1-5 record.
The Cougars lost 57-48 at home to Sutherland on Jan. 14, lost 54-41 to Collingwood on Jan. 18 and lost 44-38 to Carson Graham on Jan. 21.
Chat is 0-6 in league play following a 61-40 loss to Seycove on Jan. 22 and a 68-24 loss to West Vancouver on Jan. 24.
