WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Female weightlifter Ele Opeloge, who is seen as the leading hope of winning Samoa's first-ever Olympic medal, travels to London having only just overcome chickenpox and typhoid fever.
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist , who is currently ranked third in the world in her division, contracted typhoid fever in June while preparing for the Oceania Championships.
She made a full recovery but her recent Olympics preparation has been set back by a bout of chickenpox.
Coach Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork said Opeloge was now fully recovered and back in training.
He said "we always have to be careful with these minor sicknesses because not only does it take a toll on your body, but also your mind and hopefully Ele has mentally recovered."
