Government official says car bombing in Pakistan tribal region has killed 13, wounded 35

PESHAWAR, Pakistan - A Pakistani government official says the death toll from a bomb blast in a tribal area near the Afghan border has jumped to 13.

Khalid Mumtaz says 35 people were also wounded when the bomb planted in a car went off on Saturday in a bazar in the town of Landi Kotal in Khyber tribal region, near the main border crossing point of Torkham.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Pakistani army has carried out several operations to flush out Islamist militants in Khyber, which is one of the two routes for NATO supplies across the border into Afghanistan.

Militants also intermittently strike back by with gun and bomb attacks in the region.
