LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Several acclaimed Canadian film sound engineers are once again in the awards race.
Vancouver's Craig Berkey, Toronto-reared Paul Massey and David Giammarco of Welland, Ont., are among the nominees for Cinema Audio Society Awards for outstanding achievement in sound mixing, announced Thursday.
Berkey, a Burnaby, B.C. native, is nominated for his work on the action thriller "Hanna," starring Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana.
Giammarco is in the running for the Brad Pitt baseball drama "Moneyball."
And British-born Massey is nominated for his work on the Johnny Depp swashbuckler "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."
All three are nominated as re-recording mixers.
Last year, Berkey was nominated for two Oscars for his work on the Coen brothers' Western "True Grit." He was also up for an Oscar for his work on the Coens' 2007 crime thriller "No Country for Old Men."
In 2008, both Giammarco and Massey were up for an Oscar for their work on "3:10 to Yuma," starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.
Massey has also received five other Oscar nominations for projects including "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," "Walk the Line" and "Legends of the Fall."
The 48th annual Cinema Audio Society Awards will be presented at a dinner on Feb. 18 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
