RICHMOND, B.C. - The Olympic torch will spend the day on Vancouver's north shore today, receiving aboriginal blessings by two First Nations communities with official ties to the Games.
The relay leaves Richmond to begin the day on Bowen Island, just off the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal northwest of Vancouver.
As it makes its way through North Vancouver and West Vancouver, it will be blessed at ceremonies in the territories of the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.
They are among the so-called Four Host First Nations, which each received millions of dollars in government cash and land in exchange for their support of the Games.
The relay route also includes an aboriginal-themed pavilion on the Trans-Canada Trail, a suspension bridge in Lynn Valley and a ride on the tram at Grouse Mountain.
Among the notable torchbearers will be Canadian astronaut Julie Payette.
