What is happening in our town?

Comments

Editor:

I have lived here for 50 years.

The town my family came to was a welcoming, hardworking and helpful community that strived together for the good of the town they loved.

Now we have nearly every issue brought before Town council become so contentious. The name-calling and threats and the ugliness is so sad to see and in the long run, no one wins.

I support The George and not because it will benefit me, but because it will benefit the town. We are a small town with a small tax base and we need to have business and industry to support our infrastructure and to build a better community for all. There are some issues with the proposed hotel plan that are not perfect, but I think in all fairness for the hotel and condo development to be viable, we must realize that it has to be large enough to accommodate small conventions and groups to come to our area.

There are always pros and cons to every major change in life, but in my estimation in this case, the pros outweigh the cons. Too often some folks just look at change as how it will affect their life and not look at the big picture and see how it will affect the community as a whole.

I love my town, I love my community and my fellow Gibsonites, and I want to see it grow and prosper. Nothing ever stays the same. You either move forward or fall behind. It is time to move forward.
