Thunderbirds soar past West Van

Youth soccer

The U14 Thunderbirds spent the past week working on finishing and the practice paid off in record fashion with an impressive 3-0 win over the West Vancouver Spuraways.

In just the first minute of play Cole Schutz ran on to a cleared ball and smashed it in over the keeper from 25 yards for a
1-0 lead.

That goal shocked the home team into action and they started to assert themselves, passing around the Coast boys in a spell of dominance that lasted to the half.

The fantastic work ethic and determination of Elliot Wadge in midfield and Will Magnussen in centre defence was enough to deny West Van an equalizer until their teammates got up to speed.

The visiting Thunderbirds responded well to their coaches’ halftime talk and came out flying with chances coming fast and furious.

Striker Kai Hansen made a few dangerous runs and came close to scoring a couple before sending a perfect through ball in for a
blazing Casey Baines to smash in
to make it 2-0.

With the visitors pinned in their box, Cole finished off the match when he powered his way to a loose ball and slotted a third under the keeper.

Issac Oka made a number of key saves in a strong performance, but faced a final test to earn his shutout when a late penalty was given against the Thunderbirds. Isaac’s cool look of confidence seemed to work again as the shooter hit the ball over the net and the boys sailed home happy with the win.

House league

Highlighters beat Red 5-3 at Connor Park on Saturday in U15 boys as House League action resumed on the Coast.

It was a great game with lots of hustle on both sides. Goals were scored by Cam Longman, Sam Knight, Kaden Sauer and Kai Moore. Outstanding mention goes to Marvin Via for great goalkeeping and Christopher Collie for stopping the giant.

In U15 girls play Navy Seals played a tough game and tied
with Teal 0-0.
