Time to all get on board

Itís time for the Sechelt government to get on board.

If Queen Charlotte Village can officially express support for the BC Ferry Coalition and the Jan. 18 silent protest, so can our mayor and council.

The present plan (raise fares, lose riders and revenue, cut services, repeat until there is nobody but crew on board) is costing jobs, school enrolments, property values and tax revenues, and separating me and my wife from our children and grandchildren in the Lower Mainland. Itís not even a ďfamily friendlyĒ policy.

The issue: itís our highway, part of BC 101. I pay my share, in provincial taxes, for capital construction of water crossings on the mainland and the big island; residents on those lands should pay the capital and upgrade construction costs of other highway links across water.

Iím prepared for some civil disobedience, say on some water crossings on BC 101 and the Trans-Canada in West Vancouver.

Henry Hightower, Sechelt
