How to stick to your resolution


Another year has arrived and some of us have a list of things we’d like to change to make 2014 a better year. Some of those things were on our list last year, and the year before that.

What has to change in order for us to accomplish the goals we set before us on New Year’s Eve? Why is it so hard to stick to our resolutions as the year ticks by? Why, when we feel slightly defeated and less than happy with ourselves, do we let it happen this way?

This year, make it stick. Join us to discover how you can loose weight, write your book, get healthier, pick up your paintbrush, quit addictive behaviors, spend more time with the ones you love, start your project, manage your money, de-clutter and be happier.

Here are three tips you can adopt right now to get you going:

Think positive. Change you attitude from one of ‘this is going to be hard’ to ‘I’ll feel like a million bucks when I achieve this goal.’ The Little Engine that Could – did.

Reduce stressors. Stress causes us to look for relief – which will toss us back into old habits. If you can’t avoid stress, find a new way to relieve it.

Replace old habits with new ones. You need to fill the void or the temptation to fall back into the old habit will be ferocious. Make it relevant to what you were doing or use the same time frame for doing something different. For example; if you are quitting smoking, do something else with your hands.

‘How to stick to your resolution’ teaches ten realistic and manageable methods to help you get where you want to be. No false promises, no gimmicks, just a tried and true approach to getting on with the better things in life.

The workshop takes place at the Oracle in Sechelt on Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 6:15 to 8 p.m. Fee is $15 with proceeds going to the Finnigan Foundation (Be the Change for Kids, Register by calling 604-885-2200.
