Conform with the OCP to get my support

Editor:

I would wholeheartedly support the proposed George Hotel and Conference Centre if it complied with the present official community plan (OCP).

We bought our home for the location and the views. Never in our wildest dreams (or should I say nightmares?) would we have thought two buildings of such a size and height would be proposed that would almost completely obliterate our views of the harbour, marina and much of the ocean, island and mountains.

I wonder how many of the supporters of this project actually live in Gibsons Landing? It has divided the community into those who principally see the economic benefits and are not affected by this development and those who have chosen to live in Gibsons Landing for the outstanding natural beauty and village character.

I would suggest the hotel and conference centre be built on the present site, one each side of the Winn road extension, and conform to the present OCP; and that the condominium and commercial project be positioned where a 40-metre building would benefit from panoramic views and be closer to the town centre. It would also not affect the aquifer, local parking and foreshore issues.

Brian Aston-Pain, Gibsons
