The Gibsons and District Public Library has a new logo.

Last spring the board and staff of the library completed a strategic plan for 2013 to 2018. The plan identifies new strategic directions for the library including advancing the library’s position as the learning place in the community.

It was recognized in order to achieve this goal the library needed to develop a marketing plan to raise the awareness of the learning opportunities in the library.

The new logo highlights the idea that today’s library isn’t like the ones of 30 or even 10 years ago. Modern libraries are vibrant places where members gather to explore, share and communicate.

The emphasis on A, the first letter of the alphabet, alludes to the notion of a beginning. Designer Roger Handling notes that the tagline, stories to tell, “evokes the idea of participation and engagement with the library in an active way. By using the library’s services, one can enjoy the wonderful stories offered in a broad range of media, and also, these materials give you impetus to tell people your own stories.”

An additional goal of the strategic plan is to offer computer and technical training to library members. Everyone finds it difficult to keep up with our ever changing technical world and now the library offers one-on-one computer tutoring. If you need help with your smart phone, tablet or computer, you can register for one-hour sessions with the library’s computer youth intern.

The youth intern can also assist patrons in searching and downloading more than 65,000 free e-books from the library’s digital collection.
