Cuts some perks instead of sailings

Re: Rob Taylor letter (Coast Reporter, Dec. 6).

Clearly the writer has given absolutely no thought to people with mobility issues, particularly those who cannot even walk to the ferry to get on board.

Why should these people be further punished by having to pay half fare while their able-bodied fellow citizens walk on free?

BC Ferries would far better serve all of us by eliminating all the “frills” on board their ferries thereby eliminating quite a number of staff. Labour is, after all, one of the priciest parts of doing business.

I am sure that many of us would be glad to do without the cafeteria, coffee shop and gift shop on our route if that would ensure reasonable fares. Seating and washrooms with people to direct traffic and clean would be all that would be required in the passenger areas. After all, it is only a 40-minute ride.
