Editor:

Residents, organizations and businesses are encouraged to take a few minutes to complete a B.C. coastal ferries community engagement feedback form by the Friday, Dec. 20, deadline. The discussion guide and feedback form are posted at coastalferriesengagement.ca or you can email comments to coastalferries
engagement@gov.bc.ca
.

This is your opportunity to provide input to the province and BC Ferries prior to implementation of their plan to reduce ferry service, reduce seniors’ discounts, and offer gaming on BC Ferries ships.

The plan includes cancelling the 6:20 a.m. Sunday morning sailing from Langdale for all of the year except the summer months; and on those Sundays they propose revising the 8:20 sailing to depart one hour earlier at 7:20. This plan was announced prior to reaching out to ferry users and the community to understand the economic and social impacts of their plan.

Question three in the feedback form requests additional comments. I encourage you to comment on any other BC Ferries issues that are important to you. For example, you might wish to provide comments on things like fares, youth discounts, schedules, etc.

Barry Cavens, chair Southern Sunshine Coast Ferry Advisory Committee
