Savings to be found at Duke Point terminal

The one fact that jumps out about BC Ferries route analysis is that route No. 30 Duke Point to Tsawwassen loses $30 million a year.

This route was primarily designed so that trucks and vehicles could bypass Vancouver. The rationalization of this route may require a truck ferry service in the non-peak months and/or moving some of the vehicle traffic to Departure Bay.

Surely a million dollars of savings can be found on this route that would go a long way in making up the $18.9 million shortfall?

Route No. 3 Langdale carries twice as many vehicles and passengers as the Duke Point run, so before any significant cuts are made here, ferry management should look at the Duke Point terminal.
