Girls and boys in School District No. 46 had their year-end wrap-up volleyball tournaments last week with solid performances from all the competing schools.

In the girls tournament at Elphinstone Secondary School, the power seems to have shifted from Roberts Creek to Cedar Grove as Birgit Breuer’s volleyball fundamentals appear to be paying off.

In the A flight final, Cedar Grove won 25-17 over a feisty Gibsons’ squad. Consolation winner in the A flight saw Pender defeat Langdale 25-17.

The B flight saw Madeira Park defeat West Sechelt 26-24 in one of the tournament’s most exciting games. The consolation winners in the B flight were the Cedar Grove B-team as they defeated the West Sechelt B-team 25-22.

The C flight final was an all Roberts Creek affair with their two youngest teams going bump for bump in a 25-18 win.

In the consolation final, Madeira Park edged Gibsons 27-25.

The coaches, parents and players would like to thank the Elphinstone staff and students for giving up their gym for the day, allowing the players to enjoy their day of top-notch volleyball.

The boys tournament was held at the Sechelt Learning Centre.

The A flight was dominated by the two Roberts Creek teams with the A-team defeating Gibsons 15-11, while the B-team defeated Ecole du Pacifique in the B final 15-10.

The Gibsons B-team exacted some revenge, defeating West Sechelt 26-24 in easily the most exciting final.

Finally, it was Madeira winning the consolation final 15-12 over Langdale.

Congratulations to all the players and coaches, and especially to the numerous high school officials from Elphi, and Kelsey MacDonnell and Bailey McKinney who officiated the boys tournament.
