The discussion around the George Hotel seems to invoke strong emotions on both sides of the issue, andáthisácan often lead to misinformation, intentional or otherwise. It can also mean that the smallest of issues around such a project magnify out of proportion.
Someone has to sort through all this information intelligently. That would be our elected officials.
This letteráis about leadership. Mayor and council will, at some point,ábe tasked with the question: is this a project that benefits our community as a whole?
In my opinion, leadership is not about following the loudest voices or respondingáto the faces you see most often. Leadership isáabout having a visionáand the courage of your convictions. It is the mayor and councilĺs obligation to listen to our individual voices and read our letters, and more importantly, to make a decision that they, as informed leadersáof our community, feel benefits all ofáus over theálong-term.
