The following letter was sent to Gibsons mayor and council and copied to Coast Reporter for publication.
I came to Gibsons 12 years ago, attracted by the rural beauty and quietness of the village. Having lived on the North Shore for 28 years, I was looking for somewhere away from the madness that is now North and West Vancouver.
The proposed George Hotel/condo complex is against the village experience and also vastly against the official community plan (OCP), in my opinion.
I do not have a problem with development that takes in the values of Gibsonsí village atmosphere.
A development 125 feet high? I donít think so. What is the developer thinking? Where is the OCP now?
We are not and do not want to become another West/North Vancouver.
If the waterfront has to be developed, please comply with the terms of our present OCP and not to the whim of a developer.
