The George could be a great beginning

I am excited at the prospect of the development of the George Hotel and Conference Centre. I personally believe it will be a great bonus to our Landing community and to the Coast in general.

I understand the concerns of some who feel the height is an issue; however, I do feel the benefits of this development will be worth it. There is no doubt that the view from the new dock at The George will be spectacular!

I have been involved in the sale of resort properties in multiple tourist destinations in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, and certainly, as each area developed, there was some controversy. Some of these places are pretty famous today, and in spite of any controversy, they developed into fabulous tourist destinations.

Tourism is about the cleanest industry that we can have as long as we keep it with the softest footprint that we can. It brings in enormous amounts of cash and benefits to a community.

I am a firm believer that development done in an environmentally conscious way, that affords the general public access to new amenities and that offers added life enjoyment to the residents is all good.

Above all, we must do what is right for the sustained growth of the town. If we are not moving forward, we are moving backwards, as there is no middle ground of just sitting still. Decay and decline move in quickly.

We too can have a piece of successful tourism along with the accompanying influx of capital … The George would be a great beginning.
