A community rallies together to help

While you are out shopping around the Sunshine Coast, you may notice some new cans accenting the cash registers. These cans are being distributed by a group called Dropes Little Helpers and they are asking that you throw in your change to help a family in need.

Matthew Drope has a bone marrow disease called aplastic anemia, which will require a bone marrow transplant. Matt will require chemotherapy to kill his existing bone marrow, then on Dec. 20 he gets the new bone marrow from his younger brother and begins his recovery. He will be in hospital for at least another three months.

Matthew has been in hospital since September, and his family is feeling the financial hit with two other sons at home and trips to and from Vancouver to be with Matthew.

“We are asking our community to rally together and help this family in need,” said Lisa Stiver, who is helping to coordinate the fundraising effort. “Over the holidays, please consider a donation. Every little bit will help this family as they manage through this challenging time.”

To make larger donations, please contact the Sunshine Coast Credit Union Trust for Matt, member # 72510. If you are interested in helping distribute the cans, please join our Facebook Page, Dropes Little Helpers.
