Time for seniors to unite

Comments

Editor:

The B.C. government is trying to increase their ferry profits on the backs of B.C. seniors. If you care, please protest long and loud.

Mr. Stone, the Minister of Transportation thinks seniors want to pay for the ferry Monday to Thursday. If 23,000 people sent him a letter telling him what he can do with his latest pronouncement, maybe he would get the message. He thinks that we have no reason to get off the Coast ó†that we leave the Coast for a holiday. He thinks that he can shut down sailings and there will be no financial effect to the businesses on the Coast or the workers who commute. He thinks that we have every service we need here and that visiting family and friends is not a health need for seniors.

It is time to educate this Minister.††

I call the Gray Panthers (cougars just doesnít seem right) of the Coast to unite.

Make your voices heard over the din of governmentese. If you think this is the end of the cuts, you are mistaken. If you can afford to pay for the ferry, consider speaking up for those who canít. Six million dollars would not need to be raised if the corporation did not pay their executives so much money.

The government announced that they were lowering those salaries, but they have just switched the way it is paid. Shame on the Liberals. Seniors will not be using the ferry very often now. We might even boycott it, so just how are they going to get that $6 million?

It is always a shell game and in this instance, if you donít speak up, you lose!
