At the Oct. 23 Sechelt District committee of the whole meeting, a group of concerned citizens was pleased and encouraged by Mayor John Henderson and councillors Doug Hockley and Mike Shanks ‘yes’ support to a proposed new bylaw prohibiting the use and sale of body-gripping traps within the District of Sechelt — after more than two years of debate on the cruel leg-hold, snare and Conibear traps, 1,500-plus signatures on a petition, pitiful pictures of injured and helplessly ensnared animals, domestic pets (humans next?) and citizens’ attendance at council meetings.
So I wonder, how much more is required to persuade all of council to vote ‘yes’ for the new bylaw?
Continued use of these pernicious devices, in addition to the growing risk to the public, is indefensible.
