Gibsons Ryan Dempster and the Boston Red Sox won the World Series Wednesday night with a 6-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Gibsons Ryan Dempster has his World Series ring.

Dempster and the Boston Red Sox dominated game six on Wednesday night, winning 6-1 over the St. Louis Cardinals to win the series four games to two.

The clincher was a blowout thanks to clutch hitting from Shane Victorino whose bases clearing triple in the third brought a raucous Fenway Park crowd to its feet. Boston tacked on three more in the fourth thanks to a Stephen Drew solo home run and RBI singles by Mike Napoli and Victorino cruising to its third world title in 10 years and eighth championship in franchise history.

Veteran starter John Lackey was stellar all night. He got into a bit of trouble in the seventh allowing a run on three hits and left after 6 2-3 with the bases loaded, but reliever Junichi Tazawa got Allen Craig to ground out to first to stop the rally and end the inning.

It was the first time since 1918 that the Red Sox won the title in front of the Fenway Faithful. The Red Sox won the championship in 2004 in a four-game sweep of the Cardinals winning the final game in St. Louis and swept the Colorado Rockies in 2007 winning the final game in Denver.

Dempster pitched one inning in the World Series — the ninth inning in Boston's 8-1 game one win. He gave up a solo homer to Matt Holiday and struck out one.

St. Louis won game two 4-2, game three 5-4 on a wild walk-off win that featured a rarely called obstruction play, but Boston came back to win game four 4-2 and game five 3-1, setting the stage for the clinching win at home.

Coast Reporter will look to interview Dempster next week and will have his reaction and more in the Nov. 8th print and on-line editions.
