Creative Juice

Creative Juice is a workshop for adults to rediscover their sense of play taking place this Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Arts Building, 464 South Fletcher, Gibsons.

In this workshop, participants will be guided through embodied, emotional and creative activities that untap your creative flow in whatever domains or arts you choose to channel it.

You will rediscover play in improvisation, develop a friendly relationship with your inner critic, hear and honour your creative impulses. Gain confidence and self-acceptance while finding your creative flow. The workshop is facilitated by critically acclaimed physical comedian and veteran teacher Aaron Malkin. Cost is $30. Register through the Arts Building at 604-740-7790 or email contact@artsbuilding.org for more.

Meet the author

Gold Mad is a new novel from Gibsons educator, author and former prospector Michael Maser. He’ll be reading from his book and identifying rocks and minerals at Windows on the Water at Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons this Saturday, Sept. 21, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Rainforest

A magical community event takes place on Sunday, Sept. 22, from 2 p.m. to dusk at The Spirit of the Rainforest Retreat Centre at the Ruby Lake Resort.

Enjoy food, refreshments, music, performing arts and much more. Organizers have invited local farmers and chefs to attend and offer cooking demos using locally grown ingredients. RSVP to info@rubylakeresort.com.

This is an opportunity to connect with community. Come share the day. Admission is free.

The Sapphires

A special event from the Sunshine Coast Film Society will feature a wildly entertaining musical comedy, The Sapphires — based on Tony Briggs’ 2004 play — that follows the true story of Briggs’ mother and aunt, members of an Aboriginal female quartet that entertained American troops during the Vietnam War.

It’s a satisfying mix of sparkling humour and serious drama, full of classic music hits. Three young local singers perform before the film: Shannon Heaven, Stephanie Slingerland and Robin Edgar. That’s this Monday, Sept. 23, at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7. Special event prices apply: $8 members, $12 single event. Annual season memberships (Sept. 2013 to April 2014) will be available for $20. See www.scfs.ca for more info.

WIP

Driftwood Players invites actors, dancers and writers to the second run of WIP or Work-in-Progress that will happen on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Chaster House, Ocean Beach Esplanade, near Gibsons.

Bring a song, monologue, poem or any creative endeavour and share your work in a supportive space, gaining constructive feedback if you like.

Admission is by donation and the public is welcome. Call Elisa Jardine at 604- 741-7487 or email elmaja1@yahoo.com for details.

Nostalgia music

If you want to conjure up happiness, the music of prior years is the gateway to nostalgia.

Lina of Chasters at Bonniebrook Lodge and George Grafton have put together two Nostalgia events: an evening of dining and dancing (on the new dance floor) with Nostalgia on Friday, Sept. 27, and a lunch with Memories on Sunday, Sept. 29. Please call Lina at Chasters to book your table. Space is limited to 48, so call early to 604-886-2887.
