Rogers offers replacement tower

Telecommunications

Rogers Communications Inc. is offering to place a new wireless tower on the Gibsons and District Volunteer Fire Department property at 790 North Rd.

The company, which approached the Town of Gibsons and Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) last month with the proposal, said the new multi-use telecommunications tower would replace the fire department’s aging infrastructure at no cost to local governments.

The tower would mean “enhanced radio communications to improve services and emergency response” and “would also result in a long-term revenue source through a commercial lease,” the company said.

In compliance with Indus-try Canada requirements to consult residences and businesses near the tower, a community consultation event is planned for March.
