The Ya Yas continued their dominating season with an 8-0 rout of fun-loving Fusion in Sunshine Coast Women’s League soccer action last weekend.

Flyin’ Alvina Paul put away three, with Molly Joe and Angela Muir adding a couple each and Miranda Joe slammed home number eight.

Blazers and Sitas tied at two with Blazers’ goals from Christine Campbell, and a 20-yard top corner slam from Ashley Taylor, a flashing siren no fullback wants to see in her rearview mirror.

These shining stars of sportsmanship ended their match with both teams joining for a rousing roar of ‘’Happy Birthday” to much loved Chatelech Secondary School teacher and much feared fullback Ellen Thomas.

In the men’s league, Chiefs were back to fighting form in a decisive 8-3 win over Sitas, while Ridgepoint beat the Bananas 1-0 as Chad ‘Hollywood’ Parrel headed home Steve Crawford’s cross, without hardly mussing his hair.

Wolves kept CPU from running away with first, holding them to a 1-1 tie.

CPU’s Kurt Vernon struck first, revealing a rare combination of size and sportsmanship that hasn’t been seen since Big Bird went off the air in 2005.

Wolves’ goal came when Junior Dixon banked a ball into the net with billiards-like precision off CPU’s backliner Brad Jennens.

In the second half, Wolves’ triple terror frontline of Dan Muir, Junior Dixon and Jeremy North swooped in to strafe CPUs net, but the net remained empty as keeper Jeff Maisonette took point blank shots in the chest along with expert clearances from defensive duo ‘Patman and Martin’ — Pat Braithwaite and Martin Blackwell.

Adult teams are reminded to designate a player to email game details by Tuesday to dtrogers@eastlink.ca.
