Roberts Creek Elementary School and Chatelech Secondary School have new staff members after official announcements at the end of December by School District No. 46 (SD46).

Christa Rive was appointed principal in Roberts Creek.

John Clements was interim principal at the school during a leave of absence by former principal Gloria McBain.

Rive holds a bachelor of education degree from the University of British Columbia and has been a special education teacher at Halfmoon Bay, West Sechelt and Kinnikinnick elementary schools.

In addition to these roles, she was appointed principal of Sechelt Elementary School and provided coverage for the district principal, student support services from January 2009 to June 2009.

“I am thrilled and honoured to be working with the students, staff and parents of Roberts Creek Elementary School,” said Rive. “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Halfmoon Bay, West Sechelt, Sechelt, Kinnikinnick, Sun-shine Coast Alternative School and Support Services teams over the past 12 years. I would like to thank those teams for the rich, professional learning experiences that have come from collaboration, shared expertise and genuine care for our students.”

“I am very pleased to welcome Christa to the educational leadership team,” added superintendent of schools Patrick Bocking. “Her wealth of experience, training, and enthusiasm will support the students, staff and community of Roberts Creek Elementary as they continue to pursue excellence. I would also like to thank John Clements and Gloria McBain for their leadership to the Roberts Creek community.”

Richard Biel is the new vice-principal at Chatelech Secondary School.

Chatelech has a new vice-principal in Richard Biel, who will assume the role on Feb. 1.

This appointment is a result of the vacancy created when current vice-principal Vanessa Clarke was appointed district principal, student support services in SD46.

Biel holds several degrees, a bachelor of science (University of Alberta), bachelor of education (Simon Fraser University) and masters of educational technology from the University of British Columbia.

He has worked as a teacher in the school district for 11 years, with the last seven years teaching at the Alternative School.

“I am very excited about my new role in the school district and look forward to continue working with students, staff, parents and the wider community,” Biel said.
