For the 17th consecutive year, Sunshine Coast Hospice Society held its annual Lighting the Memories event on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1 at Snickett Park in Sechelt. This officially marked the conclusion of the Lights of Life program for this holiday season.

Rev. Mark Lemon led the candle ceremony and following the ceremony all of the cards from the Lights of Life Christmas trees from both Gibsons and Sechelt were placed into a bonfire on the beach. The burning of these cards signifies a lasting symbol of love for all of those people being remembered. There were approximately 90 persons in attendance on Wednesday afternoon.

Special thanks go to the Threshold Choir who added to the special atmosphere of the event by singing a number of songs at various times throughout the service.

Light refreshments were served following the ceremony

The Lights of Life and the Lighting the Memories programs are annual events put on by the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society.
