In a recent article on the community forest, reporter John Gleeson quotes Mayor John Henderson as follows, “Attacks on your personal and professional reputation and the recent civil disobedience are unacceptable and have no place in our community.”

My understanding of how a democracy works is quite a bit different.  I am sure it is not easy being a politician, and that you are constantly bombarded with comments from citizens who disagree with your point of view and your actions. However, elected officials, from the prime minister down to local mayors, must not attempt to silence comments from the people. Your personal and professional reputation should be transparent and open to comments.

My message to officials, whether elected or appointed is this, if you are open to public citizens commenting on your personal and professional reputation, then I wish you well. If you are trying to silence the community, then I suggest you resign.
