The Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Association (SCDRA) is proud to announce the 2012 recipients of the Vic Dubois Memorial Award — Kim King and Glyn Rose.
This award is presented to a member or members whose efforts, dedication, commitment and club involvement exemplify the community spirit of the Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Association.
King has been an active volunteer with the SCDRA since 2008 and is currently the treasurer/secretary and coordinates most of the administrative duties for the SCDRA. As the race weekend approaches, she is pulling everything out of storage, coordinating equipment, organizing the cash floats, preparing the wrist bands, booking rentals, ensuring waivers are ready and taking care of other critical details. Then her big role on the weekend is managing the tower. She effectively coordinates all data entry, starting, staging and racer registration and is the club liaison for all event participants.
Rose joined the SCDRA in 2006 and has been a director for the last three years.
He assists with SCDRA administrative duties and participates in club work parties at the Sechelt Airport. As the race date nears, his responsibilities include assisting other members with site clean-up/preparation, equipment transportation and provisioning, and always being in the right place at the right time.
For race day he is tasked to set up, test and ensure the wireless timing equipment and tree are functioning to perfection. He also coordinates race related activities with the tower, pitches in wherever help is needed and still finds time to race his 1968 Mustang at every event.
Previous winners of the Vic Dubois Memorial Award include: Dave Marshall, Jack Charboneau and Merv Charboneau.
The SCDRA sincerely appreciates the incredible support of the volunteers and local businesses that ensure the success of each drag racing event. Have a safe and happy holiday season and we’ll see everyone at the first race event in the spring of 2013.
