In the final chilly week of the first half of the adult soccer season, Blazers were on fire with a 7-1 win over Pender Harbour in the women’s league.
Ashley ‘Super Trooper’ Taylor scored three, with a pair from Astrid Bradbury and singles from Dawne Clancy and Jen Bridgeman. Tammy Klashinsky was dressed up to celebrate the season in her Santa hat and suit in net.
In other action, Sitas Sistahs edged Mayhem 2-1 on goals from mini mighty mite Olivia Cantarutti and speedy Leisha Hansen.
In the men’s league, the Pender Harbour Bananas would not go quietly and pointless into the break and they tied Halfmoon Bay 4-4.
Halfmoon Bay lambasted Pender keeper Josh Young with shots from all over, but Young looked like a star in a Kung Fu movie with hands and feet flying, and at one point made four saves in a row.
Halfmoon Bay’s Colin Bradley, Taki Tavish and Glenn Haffey eventually put four past him, when his bunch finally ripened up to the challenge to get goals from Kuna Sekeren, Oz Tapcu, and a pair from Keith ‘Pink Mittens’ Clegg.
Also, while the league respects and encourages Nate Wade’s right to express himself, it would ask in the future to limit gangnam style goal celebrations to under two minutes.
The adult leagues are off until mid-January, weather permitting.
