The Town of Gibsons has named Selina Williams as its new corporate officer replacing Michelle Jansen who left in October to take a position with the City of Richmond.
Williams started her duties with the Town on Dec. 5.
“With a background in finance and municipal administration, Selina is a welcome addition to the Town’s management team,” said a release from the Town of Gibsons.
Born in Newfoundland, Williams travelled first to Alberta where she worked for 12 years as a financial officer for Seniors/Low Income Housing.
When an opportunity on the Sunshine Coast arose in 2001, she and her family “visited and fell in love with the beauty, the people and the place. We made the move,” said Williams.
Shortly thereafter, she joined the Sunshine Coast Regional District’s infrastructure services department as support staff. In 2007 she decided to take her career in a different direction, rising to the position of deputy corporate officer with a goal of eventually becoming corporate officer in a small seaside community.
“Imagine my good fortune that this opportunity came up in Gibsons. I am feeling like the most blessed person I know,” she said.
A member of the National Association of Parliamentarians, Williams holds a certificate in local government administration and is working towards a diploma in local government management. She and her partner are avid sailors, spending as much time on the water as possible.
