The following letter was sent to the District of Sechelt and copied to Coast Reporter.
In a democratic society, the governing bodies are elected by the people, for the people. The purpose of local government is to foster a sense of trust, openness and transparency in dealings on every issue, at every level, whether popular or unpopular.
This is not happening in Sechelt.
The mayor and some council members have managed to generate mistrust, intrigue and conspiracy and, by innuendo and secrecy, besmirch and assassinate the character and reputation of Alice Lutes, a person with a proven track record of honesty and integrity and an unquestionable work ethic.
The voting public of Sechelt deserves to know the whole truth, and Ms. Lutes deserves to have her name publicly cleared and an apology offered. Humiliation by pillory is a thing of the past.
Stand up for a decent, fair and democratic end to this travesty. For every question there is an answer. We have asked the question. We are asking council to answer.
