SD46 to explain new LGBT policy

School board

At the Nov. 13 School District No. 46 (SD46) board meeting, trustee Betty Baxter moved a recommendation to have resources made available to schools that explain the new gender identity and sexual orientation policy developed by SD46.

All were in favour of the move and with that Baxter noted the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender) ad hock committee has finished its mandate and will dissolve.

Portable nets

In an effort to keep soccer nets on school fields safe SD46 approved a new portable soccer net regulation.

The new regulation states nets must be secured using at least six large sandbags weighing a minimum of 50 pounds each or with CSA-approved ground stakes or another CSA-approved devise like an in-ground anchor.

Media reports earlier this year pointed to overturned nets as a cause of injury and in some cases death.

“So we took it upon ourselves to draft some regulations and really develop some procedures in terms of how these nets should be secured when they’re on School District property,” Weswick said.

All were in favour of the new regulation.
