Ya Yas still on top

In the women’s league this week, the undefeated Ya Yas posted yet another victory, this time because their opponents failed to show.

Have the Ya Yas become so dominant this season that other teams have just figured ‘what’s the point’?

The only adult soccer team to ever post an undefeated season was the 2006 men’s Pigs. If the Ya Yas pull it off they deserve a parade, but at the very least expect them to be goin’ honkin’.

While Ya Yas can’t lose, Banana Peppers posted their first franchise victory!

Inspired by the alternating bellowing and red-eyed pleading from coach Brent Sheppard, B-Peps got goals from Laura Storoschuck and Crystal Goodwin in their win over Mayhem.

Sitas Sistahs fortunes seem to be rising like pizza dough, as they defeated Blazers 1-0 with a sassy little chip from Kendra ‘Kenny G’ Graham.

In the men’s league, the top three teams put three more points between themselves and the rest of the pack, each winning their games by three goals.

Chiefs’ Scott Johnson has the questionable talent of being able to tell lies with his feet. They tell a defender they’re going left before veering right, then convince a goalie that a shot’s going high, before smacking the ball low. Don’t believe them. Chief’s two other strikes in their win over Sitas came from Andrew Swift.

CPU and IGFC Wolves was a defenders’ showcase, as well-timed runs and strategic play from CPU’s Martin Blackwell and Simon Hocking along with Wolves’ Jedidiah Wensvene and Rick Timothy limited prolific strikers Junior Dixon, Dan Muir, Ken Campbell and Fumi Takahashi to outside shots and kept them off the board.

In the final 15, the game came apart and CPU scored three in the win.

In their 7-4 win over Pender, Ridgepoint strikers Mike Husband and Jason Wilson both bagged numerous strikes, but the money shot come from Grant Marshall.
