Midget Blues looking good

Rep hockey
Comments

The Midget A Rep blues are rounding into form as the placement portion of their schedule wraps up this weekend.

The Blues began the hockey year with a second place finish at a tournament in Sicamous. After sweeping the round robin with a 3-0 record, the Blues shot themselves in the foot by playing undisciplined hockey in the final. Too many penalties saw them come out on the wrong end of a 4-2 loss to West Kelowna, whom they had handled easily earlier.

A loss at home to Hollyburn, again due to penalty trouble, started off league play. The Blues played much better in a 3-3 tie at North Delta, however.

Last weekend saw the team playing three games in four days.

After a dominating 8-3 win over Burnaby Winter Club at home, the Blues hit the road for games in Abbotsford and Cloverdale.

The first game was a really fun game to watch. Fast and hard hitting, both teams came to play. The Blues, led by a solid defence, shut down the Abbotsford Hawks all night and pulled away in the third to win 3-1 paced by two goals from Kyle Bergh and a single by Brennen Meyers.

Sunday saw them squaring off against a big physical team from Cloverdale. With injures and such, the Blues were very shorthanded, but played an inspired game, winning 5-3, paced by goals from Kyle, Brennen, Tyler Graham, Therin Hemstalk and Austin Clarke.

The Blues close out the schedule with a 3:45 p.m. game on Saturday against Surrey and a Sunday 5:30 p.m. rematch with Abbotsford.
