Barn dance in Roberts Creek

Yee haw! Take out your western duds for a great evening of music with two country bands.

Coast favourites Bits of String and The Country Boys get together for an old-time barn dance at Roberts Creek Hall on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 8 p.m.

Bits of String is Mark Lebell (guitar, harmonica) and Kaia Nielsen (upright bass) who harmonize in the best “high lonesome” country tradition, joined by Ken Dalgleish on piano and Graham Walker on drums. The String performs unique versions of songs by alternative country artists like Gillian Welch and Ryan Adams.

With a sound rooted in 1950s honky-tonk and rockabilly, The Country Boys’ repertoire ranges from Hank Williams to Leonard Cohen. Singer-guitarist Kevin Crofton delivers classic country weepers in a rich baritone voice, while Ian McLatchie adds the signature sound of a crying steel guitar. Bassist Andy Amanovich and drummer Walker keep the bottles dancing on the tables with a rock-solid back beat. They’ll be joined by guest vocalist and honourary country girl Jenny Groves of Sweet Cascadia.

Tickets for $15 in advance are available at Coast Books and Woods Showcase in Gibsons, MELO-mania in Roberts Creek and Strait Music in Sechelt.
