The Blazers got their groove back this weekend in a 2-1 win over Mayhem, with goals from Christine Campbell and a converted penalty from Astrid Bradbury.
In other women’s league action, Mayhem managed a 2-1 win over Fusion.
The Banana Peppers notched a win and a tight loss, beating Mayhem with goals from Trish Johnson and Amber Kincaid, this week, though they were edged by Ya Yas, with scoring coming from Mary McKay and Crystal Goodwin.
Ya Yas’ goals came from April Joe, Fawna-girl George and ‘Miss’ Molly Joe. However, the word is out. The B-Peps are here to play and ready to rumble, though their rumbling will be done in the typically sportsmanlike fashion for which Pender teams are known.
In the men’s league, Ridgepoint took a 2-0 win over Chiefs, as D-man Jesse Agnew threw his weight around, smothering the soft-shoed subtlety of Scott Johnson and company like a bull in a china shop. Jason Wilson did what needed to be done on the front line, bagging both goals.
After years of playing the cowering Gilligan to CPU’s cap-swatting Skipper, Halfmoon Bay traded their alley-cat skittishness for the alpha dog “you eye ballin’ me, boy?” swagger we saw this weekend. This transformation was due to Mike Cowies’ thankless years of Brian Burke-style coaching, as he pruned his budding squad, grafting the shoots of lawyers, doctors and software engineers onto the burly bark of Falstaffian ruffians like Nate Wade, to finally blossom forth in victory on this rainy October Sunday morning.
Halfmoon Bay’s goals came from Colin Bradley and Greg Stinson. Fumi Takahashi scored for CPU.
