Stuart Richey from Roberts Creek helped lead the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Wolfpack men’s volleyball team to a gold medal at last weekend’s Thunderball tournament at the University of British Columbia (UBC).
TRU beat UBC in five sets in Saturday night’s final, just one night after losing to UBC in their final round robin game. In the round robin loss, Richey, who is in his third year at TRU, led the way with 12 kills in 37 chances.
In Saturday’s win, Richey was six for 12 in kills with nine digs.
“Stuart came on in the second set and played great,” said head coach Pat Hennelly. “He was a stabilizing force on serve receive.”
The Wolfpack kick off their 2012/13 Canada West regular season tonight (Friday) at home.
