Assault case set for May

Provincial court

The alleged assault trial for Sunshine Coast RCMP Cpl. Murray McNeil has been set for May 27 to 29, 2013 in Sechelt provincial court.

The date was set Oct. 2 at McNeil’s arraignment hearing, with a trial confirmation hearing set for April 16, 2013 in North Vancouver, Crown counsel Trevor Cockfield said.

McNeil has pled not guilty to one count of assault causing bodily harm stemming from an altercation that occurred during a June 28, 2011 traffic violation stop.

According to RCMP, an internal investigation was launched after an individual arrested at the scene complained to the Commission for Public Complaints.

A parallel internal code of conduct investigation was also conducted and substantiated, RCMP said.

No charges were laid against the complainant.

McNeil is currently operational and working under close supervision, RCMP said.
