Crawl the Coast

Art Crawl

It’s Art Crawl time again on the Sunshine Coast, and the number, diversity of disciplines and styles showcased in the 101 galleries and studios opening their doors (and properties) is as impressive as the organization of this huge event by the Coast Cultural Alliance.

The Alliance’s mandate of “working to enhance the economic vitality of the Sunshine Coast through cultural sector development” is addressed and then some in this third Annual Art Crawl, from Langdale to Lund, Oct. 19 to 21.

The sophistication and coordination of the Crawl deserves serious accolades. The world class brochure and website are full of easy accessible information on every artist and gallery, including the best map I have seen for an event such as this. Coast Cultural Alliance, take a bow.

For those who have shied from experiencing art firsthand, this is the perfect, zero stress opportunity. The Crawl provides an informal and anonymous atmosphere of group visits to galleries and studios, where, as one of a crowd, you will get to experience firsthand works of over 270 local artists in every discipline from pottery to painting to sculpture to quilting to printmaking to fibre works to metal and glass arts to just about anything you could imagine.

It is a veritable magical mystery tour of colour, shape, texture, image and sound, a sumptuous two-day feast for the senses, gifted to us by the Sunshine Coast’s ever increasing wealth of artists. So go on-line, or pick up the detailed and comprehensive Crawl brochure at any local coffee shop, Visitor’s Information Centre, book store or gallery, put yourself and a few friends in a car, and immerse yourselves in the wild shapes and colours of the Coast Crawl.
