Backyard burn ban still in effect

Fire Danger

The unseasonably dry summer and early fall means no backyard burning for property owners/occupiers in Areas A (Egmont Fire Protection District), B, D, E and F until further notice. Normally, backyard burning of branches, leaves and other yard waste starts as early as Oct. 15. However, the fire danger rating on the Sunshine Coast is currently high, and humidity has been hovering near 50 or 53 per cent. Burning restrictions also apply for non-SCRD fire departments: Sechelt and Pender Harbour. Contact your local fire department for more information. — Submitted
