We need to make changes

Editor:

As a merchant in Lower Gibsons, I am 100 per cent in favour of the hotel, convention centre and condo complex put forward by Klaus Fuerniss.

We need to make changes. There are some people who do not want this area to change. Let me remind you that without the changes that have occurred over the last 30 years, it would not have been possible for you and me to live here.

It is time to consider changes that are needed to ensure that our beautiful town will exist with the grace and dignity it deserves and with the economic base that is required for it to remain a thriving, healthy community.

One of the troublesome facts that we are faced with is the decline of the family unit in our community. This is a travesty occurring in an area that should be bending over backwards encouraging families to come and live and grow with us.

We cannot develop or maintain a healthy existence without the family unit being the core of the community. Opportunities for advancement in the fields of employment, education, health resources, recreational and competitive sports, etc. are all seriously compromised, because of the lack of development and improvements. We can only maintain and improve these facilities if we have the infrastructure to support them, and that comes with controlled, sensible development.

If we continue to hoard and hide this piece of heaven, we will have done a huge disservice to the blessed gift we’ve been entrusted with.

This project is non-invasive and is in keeping with the integrity and character of our community. It is not a threat to our way of life but instead will actually help provide the infrastructure needed to maintain our quality of life.

Lynn Ujvary, Gibsons
