Flock to the funorama

Jan Gillis, left, and Barb Christie prepare to lead the chorus in the Funtastics' Funorama on Sept. 29.

The members of the Funtastics group are having way too much fun with their latest project, the Funtastic Fall Funorama.

Miss Berni G is the musical director for all 16 of the singers, dancers and funny people who have entertained you in the past as part of the Funtastics’ vaudeville shows. They plan to do it again on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre. Doors open at 2 p.m.

It’s a one-time only fundraising event, and you won’t want to miss it if you like what the group describes as “old fashioned mayhem.”

You can listen to classic ballads such as If You’re Young at Heart, or laugh at Ed and Dayna White’s comical skit about how we communicate once we’re in our 70s, hear Gloria Fyles singing an Edith Piaf tune or watch her join the other women for a can-can dance. Jan Gillis and Barb Christie lead a chorus of Those Were the Days and some of your favourite comics like Tony Fraser from vaudeville days return to enliven the humour.

Mo Farn, the group’s coordinator now that they are incorporated as a non-profit organization, is proud of their progress. (If you remember, he was the amazing magician act with uncooperative assistants at last year’s vaudeville.) This year he joins two other men to call in song for his dram of Whiskey on a Sunday.

At their last vaudeville performance, the group managed to raise funds by sale of advertising on their authentic theatre backdrop and these funds have gone towards the purchase of a Roland digital piano to be played by the dancing fingers of Berni G.

The Funorama day also involves a silent auction, a 50/50 draw and finger food and is probably more suitable for adults. Tickets are $15 at the Seniors’ Centre in Sechelt, the Sechelt Visitor Info Centre and Laedeli in Sunnycrest Mall, Gibsons.
