Food banks here on the Sunshine Coast and throughout the province are feeding hungry mouths every day. These food banks do not receive government funding and rely solely on the public for donations.

Many would go hungry if not for the generosity of others. So this month, as we get closer to Thanksgiving, why not share and help others in need through the annual B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive.

Volunteers will be travelling up and down the Coast between Sept. 15 and 19 dropping off an information pamphlet and donation bags on area doorsteps. Then on Sept. 22 starting at 9 a.m., volunteers will pick up your filled donation bags from your doorstep. No doorbells will be rung and no solicitation will be made. If you want to support this great cause, simply leave your donation bag on your doorstep for pick up.

Items of need include: canned meat and fish, canned fruit and vegetables, rice, whole wheat pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, cereal, baby formula and baby food. All donations will go to support the Salvation Army Harvest of Hope Food Bank, St. Bart’s Church Food Bank and the Sunshine Coast Food Bank in Sechelt.
