Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast Village executive director Ron Pepper and Sunshine Coast Credit Union CEO Shelley McDade are extending an invitation to the Sunshine Coast to help them celebrate the opening of the SC Village project on Sept. 30 from noon to 3 p.m. in Wilson Creek.

Seeing the morning sun come up over the treetops and light up the smiling faces of Shelley McDade, CEO, Sunshine Coast Credit Union, and Ron Pepper, executive director, Habitat for Humanity at Sunshine Coast Village, was a perfect illustration of brilliant co-operation.

With the generous and exclusive sponsorship of SCCU, Habitat is now getting ready for their grand opening of Sunshine Coast Village in Wilson Creek on Sept. 30, and a new beginning for Habitat families.

Habitat is planning a spectacular celebration to welcome the first two hard-working families to their new homes. It is also a celebration of the dedication and loyalty of everyone who has helped in the site development, roads and services, and construction over the last five years. And there are a lot of generous and skilled people on the Coast who have made significant contributions, such as the School District No. 46 ACE-IT program, the TELUS Ambassadors, Sechelt Plumbing, Wheeler Electric, Ross Concrete, Custom Carpets, Longman Developments, Lon’s Contracting and Crane Services, the Sunshine Coast Builders’ Association, Rona Madeira Park, Gibsons Building Supplies, and so many more who will be recognized during the celebration. Also in attendance will be representatives from previous sponsors and supporters such as the Royal Bank, Industrial-Alliance, Genworth Financial, Delta Hotels and BMO.

The grand opening will be kicked off with the very popular Bad to the Bow fiddlers and will wind up with an hour-long performance by the spirited Billy Hillpickers bluegrass tunes. There will be home tours, food trucks, balloons and entertainment for the children, and welcome messages conveyed by District of Sechelt Mayor John Henderson and other special guests. MarketPlace IGA, Wilson Creek, has generously offered to provide free cake for everyone.

“This is an amazing example of the ripple effect at work in our community once again — people coming together to make good things happen,” McDade said. “The Coast is home to so many generous individuals and businesses giving the gift of time, donations of funds or supplying materials. We’re very proud to be a part of this ripple and look forward to celebrating with Habitat at its grand opening of Sunshine Coast Village.”

The community is invited to the celebration from noon to 3 p.m. on Sept. 30.
