Human remains discovered

Sunshine Coast RCMP

Sunshine Coast RCMP say no criminal involvement appears to be associated with human remains discovered Wednesday.

According to Sgt. Russ Howard, the remains were located in a rural wooded area between Roberts Creek and Gibsons after a comprehensive search conducted with the assistance of Sunshine Coast search and rescue, conservation service and the BC Coroner's Service.

“We want to let the public know that the cause of death does not appear to be suspicious,” said Howard, head of investigative services for the Sunshine Coast RCMP.

Howard said searchers were acting on information reported to them by a person working in the woods, who had come across the suspected remains.

“As there does not appear to any criminal involvement associated with the circumstances surrounding this incident, the RCMP will defer any future possible identification to the BC Coroner's Office,” said Howard.
