Dempster wins again

Sports in brief

Gibsons Ryan Dempster appears to have found his form with the Texas Rangers.

Dempster improved his record to 3-1 (8-6 overall) since the July 31 trade from the Chicago Cubs with a 9-3 win over the Minnesota Twins last Saturday afternoon.

Dempster allowed only two runs in six innings on eight hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

He was helped out by a hot day from Ian Kinsler who led off the game with a home run and a bases-loaded triple in the third.

Mitch Moreland also launched a 150-metre shot as well, pacing the offence.

Dempster is back on the mound this Friday night when the Rangers head to Cleveland for a weekend series with the Indians.

Junior golfers continue to impress

It has been an impressive summer on the links for many junior golfers on the Sunshine Coast.

Sechelt’s Kennan Flemming competed in last week’s B.C. Juvenile Girls and Boys Championship at the Princeton Golf Club.

Kennan finished 62nd in the field with a three-day score of 252 (+36).

Kennan has also been a regular this season on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour where he competed Aug. 26 and 27 at the Predator Ridge Golf Resort for the MJT Okanagan Junior Championship.

He finished sixth in the boys’ 13 and under division with a two-day score of 164. He was also awarded with a long drive award in the long drive, skills and comeback awards competition.

Also competing at the event was Cam McAllister from Gibsons who finished 13th in the boys’ 14-16 division with a two-day score of 162 and Jacob Bland from Sechelt who finished in 24th place in the boys’ 14-16 division with a two-day score of 176.
