Keats fire contained

Coastal Fire Centre

The Coastal Fire Centre is warning to be careful after crews had to respond to a campfire related blaze on Keats Island, Aug. 21.

An initial attack crew and helicopter responded to the blaze at about 9 a.m., Tuesday.

Areas on the Sunshine Coast were predominantly classified as having a high fire danger rating this week.

“We’re asking people to be respectful of the fact that the forest is dry, make sure they situate the camp fire well and put it out when they leave the area,” said fire information officer Donna MacPherson.

Four helicopters and 30 fire fighters also battled a 10-hectare fire in the mountains between Vancouver and Egmont bays on Wednesday.
