Sacred drum workshop returns

Museum and Archives

Back by popular demand, the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives in Gibsons presents another sacred drum workshop next Saturday.

Tsawaysia Spukwus will lead the workshop on Saturday, July 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the museum.

All materials are pre-cut, treated and prepared for assembly. The workshop includes a complimentary drum beater and information on how to care for your drum.

Spukwus will lead participants through the process of making a sacred drum while sharing songs and storytelling.

Spukwus is a Squamish Nation member and mother of three children. Her father Pekultn was a hereditary chief from the Seymour Creek area. Her mother is a Squamish Nation Elder who has nurtured and guided her family of seven children in all aspects of their culture.

With more than 20 years of working with First Nation communities as an educator and 15 years guiding sacred drum making workshops, Spukwus is masterful at bringing innovative learning opportunities to all people.

Registration fee is $150 that includes all materials. Contact the museum at 604-886-8232 for more details.
