The 1st Elphinstone Rangers made it. After 18 months of fundraising, the girls realized their goal when they stepped off the plane on the island of Kauai in March.

During their stay they travelled to all parts of the island. They went to the top of the canyon that is the wettest spot in the world and walked through (and sampled) the largest coffee plantation. A boat tour the group took was amazing as they saw dolphins and turtles right off the bow. As well, humpback whales were all around them showing their tails and spouting. They even saw baby whales. 

Their adventure activity consisted of zip-lining more than seven zip-lines down a valley. They then took part in a tubing adventure through a water irrigation system that consisted of mostly tunnels.

The Rangers gave back to the island by volunteering some time at the Humane Society.

“This was an incredible experience for the girls as we gave dogs baths and played with them. We also interacted with the many cats too,” said leader Debbie English. “The facility is huge and the animals (which were very many) are well taken care of. Our last night we took part in a traditional luau. We experienced the Hawaiian culture and learned many things about the island.

“This was truly a memorable experience for the girls which will last them a lifetime.  The girls represented our community and Girl Guides of Canada well.”
